High-Density Recording Server for Large-Scale Deployments
A high-density recording server is specifically designed to handle a large number of IP cameras and store high volumes of video data. Commonly used in large-scale deployments such as airports, casinos, hotels, and shopping malls, these servers typically include:
- One or two high-powered CPUs
- Fibre network ports
- Redundant systems for video storage drives, OS drives, and power supplies
Case Study: Custom Server for Hotel Surveillance
One of our integration partners was working on a hotel project requiring:
- Support for 400 IP cameras
- Minimum 60 days of storage
Our Solution
Based on the project requirements, our team designed and hand-built a high-density 2U recording server in-house. The build included:
- Operating System: Windows® Server 2022
- VMS Software: Milestone XProtect® Professional+
- Processor: Intel® Xeon® 4516Y+ CPU
- Memory: 128GB DDR5 ECC Registered RAM
- Networking:
- 2 x 10GB Fibre Ports
- 4 x 1GB NICs
- IPMI for remote management
- Boot Drive:
- 1TB SSD for OS and software (RAID 1)
- Live Database:
- 12 x 960GB Micron® SSDs (RAID 10)
- Video Storage:
- 18 x 20TB Seagate® Skyhawk Drives (RAID 6)
- Chassis: 2U 24-bay
- Power Supply: 1200W hot-swap redundant PSU
We were able to source, build, configure, test, and ship the system within 10 business days for approximately $20,000 USD / $25,000 CAD.
