Recording Servers
A recording server is a dedicated system designed to store and manage video footage captured by the IP cameras. The server receives these streams and saves them to the local storage (hard drives). Specialized video management software (VMS) allows users to view live feeds, search past recordings, and manage camera settings – all through a single interface.
Main Functions of a Recording Server
- Video Storage: Store video footage securely in a database
- Recording Setup: Configure motion detection and recording schedules
- IP Camera Configuration: Manage camera resolution and quality settings
- Event Management: Setup alarms and triggers based on the rule system
Common Features & Capabilities
- High-Capacity Storage: Store video from dozens to hundreds of cameras.
- Redundancy: Reduce the risk of video footage loss with RAID
- Multiple NICs: Provide access to cameras from multiple networks
- Scalability: Using hot-swap drive bays to easily increase storage.
- Multiple Video Outputs: Add additional monitors to display cameras
